Liberty Square

Liberty Square is a Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) in northern Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Liberty Square promotes sustainability through it's compact, mixed-use design that provides local recreation, shopping, and employment opportunities. The neighborhood covenants require houses to utilize traditional architectural styles and details to promote social interaction and efficient use of land.

In creating the concept plan, the primary goal of the development team was to foster a unique and memorable neighborhood with a character similar to older parts of Sun Prairie or other smaller communities in Wisconsin. The creation of a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood with attractive streetscapes, intimate parks and open spaces, a well connected and “neighborhood friendly” street system, and a variety of housing types and sizes, contribute to the development of this kind of urban environment.

One issue for the City of Sun Prairie in approving this project was the amount of retail space built into the plan. As part of our overall package of services, Vierbicher worked with the developer to conduct a retail market analysis of the area to determine an appropriate amount of neighborhood-oriented retail space that could be supported by the development and other nearby neighborhoods.

Vierbicher provided retail market analysis, planning, stormwater management, engineering, platting, and surveying services.
