Project Description

The Lakeside Foods Flood Levee project included design, permitting and construction of a new flood levee and other improvements. The flood levee was designed to provide protection from future Baraboo River floods.

Vierbicher Associates also provided CDBG Application and Administration Services including Environmental Review, serve as Labor Standards Officer, financial management, recordkeeping, reporting and coordinated with regulatory agencies including FEMA, USACE, WDNR, Sauk County and City of Reedsburg.

Vierbicher prepared a floodplain analysis using HEC-RAS to determine the effect the proposed facility will have on the 100 year floodplain elevation. Note, the goal was to design a flood protection system that results in no change to the flood elevation, so other properties adjacent to the Baraboo River are not affected. This analysis included:

  • Complete a topographic survey of the site and field survey additional Baraboo River cross-sections. Prepare a base map of the project area.
  • Update the existing HEC-RAS floodplain model to add cross-sections at the project location.
  • Analyze options to determine the location that a flood control facility can be constructed which will not change the 100 year floodplain elevation.
  • Submitted the floodplain analysis to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) for their review and approval.

Vierbicher prepared all permit applications, preliminary and final construction plans and documents.
