Project Description

The Village of DeForest began to look at design of the River Road Reconstruction project in 2002 in conjunction with a planned development. The project included improvements to a township road that shares a common boundary between the jurisdictions of the Village of DeForest and Town of Vienna. The first phase of improvements started in 2004 and final improvements were completed in the Fall of 2023. Vierbicher worked on the design, surveying, water resources, permitting and construction on all phases of the project working for both the Village and Developer. Some of the specific project items completed for the 2.5 mile project include:

  • Worked with both municipalities to coordinate road improvements and shared utilities.
  • Designed and implemented street maintenance and resurfacing projects until the road was ready to be reconstructed.
  • Completed two phases of multi-use trail construction prior to the road segments being reconstructed.
  • Designed and constructed a sanitary sewer interceptor to serve future development.
  • Designed and constructed a water extension along River Road to provide a water loop for the development.
  • Designed and constructed intersection improvements at multiple intersections throughout the project limits.
  • Realigned existing road for a segment in the new development.
  • Reconstructed River Road in phases including, improving horizontal and vertical alignment, and completing the multi-use path and a pedestrian bridge.
  • Completed topographic and property surveys to establish and acquire right-of-way, utility easements, prepare temporary grading easements, and create a base design file.
  • Converted a rural road section to an urbanized cross section and evaluated drainage improvements.
  • Provided full time construction observation and construction staking.
